Three Steps to a Successful E-book

The key to writing a successful E-book is to determine what the people want and give it to them in the form of an E-book.

One of the biggest mistakes that aspiring E-book publishers make is to first write a book on a subject that they are interested in as opposed to what the public wants. Then they are burdened with the task of hustling up a market from a related niche and then try to persuade them that they should adopt the same interests and purchase the book. Generally, this is not met with much success. Obviously, this is not the best route to break into the world of E-book publishing.

Before you write the first word, you need to research the niche. Take a good, objective look at the market and determine what the public wants. Once you know what they want you can begin to bring together the information that they want and create an E-book that they will gladly purchase.

Step 1 - What is the Subject with which you are most Familiar?

Begin your process by making a list of things that you would write about with confidence and expertise. It is much easier and, yes, even fun to write about something that you know well and have an interest in, in the first place. Think about hobbies and interests that other people may be interested in reading about and start there. Do not make the mistake of assuming that just because you are well versed in a particular subject area that it is common knowledge to others. Even if it is common knowledge to those in that circle, it is new material to someone who is just starting out in that area.

When you have determined your subject, you should begin to research the niches where the subject could be turned into profit. Even if the niche is popular, it does not mean that you should not pursue it. A popular niche shows that a market is already established and that there is a great deal of interest, which equals money to be made. Your challenge will be to formulate your product so that it is superior to your competition or so that it offers something that the other products do not.

Step 2 - Find Their Itch And Scratch It!

Think about your target market and their needs. What are their problems? What are they missing in their lives? You should mold your product to address these needs. Identify your target market and research them thoroughly.

In your analysis of your target market, focus on what they do not have. You may even have to tell them what they are missing, why they need it and how they can get it (from you). When you do deliver with quality and expertise, they will reward you financially.

Step 3 - Do Your Research.

There is a process to writing an E-book, particularly when its intended purpose is to educate and inform. You cannot wake up one morning and just decide to start writing. You may have the knowledge, but you need to organize the structure of your book and you need to research. In addition, the research may not be all that you think.

First, research what is already out there. Find other E-books and material on your topic that is already in the mainstream. As you research what is already on the market, you should begin to develop your product to make it different from what is already out there.

Second, you need to research your subject. Even if you know your topic front and back, there is always something new happening and you want your E-book to be as current as possible. Collect all of the latest information on your subject, keep it in a folder, and incorporate it into your book.

How to Find Your Niche for Writing a Book

Perhaps you have read all the tips on writing a book and steps to writing a book and still do not quite know where to begin. Maybe you do not want to spend a year writing a five hundred-page book, only to realize at the end that it is not very good and nobody will want to publish it. The way around this is to find your niche or genre.

Some people only write comedy, others write adventure stories and some like to write short stories. Every writer has different strengths and weaknesses so it is always best to work with the writing skills you already have in order to produce a great piece of writing. Writing a book review or even reading someone else's review can help you to identify different writing styles and even mistakes other writers make. Reading books can give you a good idea of methods used to keep readers turning the pages gleefully.

You might want to try writing a few short stories. How about you try writing five short stories of five hundred words each. Write one about horror, one adventure tale, one children's story, one romantic tale, and a funny story. Read them through afterwards or get someone else to read them. Perhaps your children's story shows promise but your horror tale is more funny than scary. This is a very good exercise to find out where your strengths lie.

You should also write in a way that is enjoyable. If you hate writing horror but love writing romantic fiction, write the romance! You will enjoy writing a book and produce something heartfelt at the same time. Writing can be a lot of fun as well as being work and will be around forever for other people to appreciate!
